Abstract

The development of Arabic language modules that align with the needs of Fast Track SPM programme students has become increasingly important in the current educational context, particularly for students from tahfiz and pondok backgrounds who have had limited exposure to the formal Arabic language learning. Therefore, this study aims to identify the types of modules preferred by students, examine the level of need for the development of Arabic language modules and determine the appropriate module content for Fast Track SPM students. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey research design. The research instrument used was questionnaire which were distributed to 251 Fast Track SPM students from five institutions, namely Akademi Lembah Ilmu, USAS Bridging Centre, Maahad Tahfiz As-Sa’idiyyah, Tahfiz Bestari UNIMEL, and Smart Tahfiz UCYP. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics involving frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, as well as Pearson correlation analysis. The findings indicate that the majority of students preferred printed book modules (88.0%) compared to the digital modules and QR audio. The level of need for module development was found to be very high (M = 4.566), while the suitability of the module content also recorded a high mean value (M = 4.408). The correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between module content and students’ needs (r = 0.561, p < 0.001). In conclusion, the development of concise, systematic modules that focus on exercises and writing guidance is highly needed by the Fast Track SPM students.
