Abstract

Vocabulary is the knowledge of words, their types and meanings whether in conversation or writing. Studies have proven that a large vocabulary is very important to master a language. Studies also report that there are various factors that affect a person's vocabulary mastery. This study aims to identify, study and synthesize the factors that affect students' Arabic vocabulary mastery. This study uses Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on i) publication dates between 2001 and 2021, ii) Malay, English and Arabic iii) published in Google Scholar and ERIC databases. The highlights of this literature show that vocabulary mastery is not influenced by linguistic factors of the language itself but is influenced by psychological factors, teaching and learning factors and communication skills factors. This study contributes to the existing studies by bringing together studies related to vocabulary mastery and also suggests that a study be conducted on the factors that affect students' Arabic vocabulary mastery in Malaysia so that the parties concerned can plan an appropriate strategy in improving the level of learning Arabic through vocabulary mastery.
